Profile: Frankie Boyle, Controversial Scottish Comedian

Frankie Boyle | Comedian / Writer | Stated Magazine Profile Interview

    Live boyle Girls

By Jimmy Aquino, Pop Culture Contributing Editor

Francis Martin Patrick Boyle was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, where he learned to hone his comedy skills and phat beats. He began his stand-up career in his early 20’s and started getting more recognition as a regular on the UK panel show, Mock the Week. His hilarity was often censored, only appearing on the “Too Hot For TV” DVDs, but you couldn’t keep his comedy down, as his sold-out tours proved. Two books (My Shit Life So Far and Work! Consume! Die!, TV shows (Tramadol Nights and The Boyle Variety Show), a video game appearance (Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and the Damned), a comic book (Rex Royd), and plenty of controversy keep this hard-working comedian…well…working hard! He claims that his current stand-up tour, The Last Days of Sodom, is his last. What lies ahead for Frankie Boyle? Perhaps retreating to a Buddhist temple for spiritual enlightenment? Starting his own line of children’s books? Marrying Katie Price? Read on and listen to the accompanying interview to find out!

stated’s own Jimmy Aquino sat down over lunch with Frankie at a nice cafe in that old London Town back in May. Jimmy’s pal and fellow new media guru, Barry Nugent (Geek Syndicate), was also present. Enjoy the profile interview and then listen to the entire charming and NSFW audio interview (complete with sounds of cafe life in the background) to hear more from Frankie about comedy, comic books, entertainment and living the thug life.

TO WHOM
DO YOU
LOOK FOR INSPIRATION?

…searching for inspiration now. I think things like…things that really get me are stuff like…Joseph Heller, things like that. So I guess, those writers that are like doing something kinda really extraordinarily whacked, are the things that really inspire me. I would never have the energy or the talent to do something like that. That’s the things that I really get.

IF YOU
COULD
LIVE/WORK
ANYWHERE
IN THE
WORLD,
WHERE
WOULD
IT BE ?

New York, man. I’d love to live in New York. My kids are grown now.

WHAT
WAS YOUR
FIRST
NON-ART
JOB?

I’d worked in a library for like a week and a half, or something like that. I told some old guy to “Fuck Off” on the first day. The whole idea of having someone that tells me what to do, or any kind of interaction with people, is a disaster.

IF THERE WERE
A MOVIE
OF YOUR LIFE,
WHO WOULD
WRITE, DIRECT,
AND STAR
IN IT ?

It’d have to be someone who’s really struggling…like the Hallmark movie of my life… Lindsay Lohan in drag. With a beard…a little beard, man? …Director: Dahmer.
